Kenny Chesney
Just Who I Am: Pirates and Poets

It’s been awhile since Kenny Chesney has came out with a new album. Not that it matters, this talented artist is always touring and his 2007 Flip Flop Summer Tour was the was the highest-grossing country road trip of 2007.  Not bad for an artist that has over thirty Top Ten hits under his cowboy belt with thirteen of them reaching Number 1!  So when you hear that his newest album is going to be the first time he’s ever released a CD where he hasn’t written any of the songs, what should you expect?

If you work in the bar industry, or just spend a lot of time in a bar, then Kenny Chesney’s music should be understood very easily. He is usually always referring to all night parties or rolling one up with a group of friends for an after hours party somewhere. He’s been known to party with the best of them and has sung duets with many of country music’s biggest drinkers and hell raisers.

I assumed since this CD was titled Who I Am: Poets and Pirates, it would be similar to his Be As You Are album that never got any radio play, even though it is his best work to date in my opinion. His new album touches on many of the same lifestyle choices he sung about in that album, but being as he didn’t write any of these songs, it’s actually surprising how similar they are.

In an interview with Kenny, he said “this is the first time I have used music that I haven't had a hand in writing.” He went on to say “I heard these songs and knew them like I had written them, I felt a connection, so I felt comfortable singing them.”

When Chesney sings along to such catch lines as “Last thing I remember, I told the Bartender mix Rum and whatever you have” or “I feel pain, so I must still be alive” you know the man knows how to party. As bartenders, we can all relate to the song “Got a Little Crazy Last Night.” Then there is the song “Dancin’ For The Groceries” which talks about a young single mother who’s dancing for her kids at a local strip bar. Something I’m sure all of us who have worked in the bar industry can relate to.

The best thing about this album is it has a song for everyone, no matter what your generation or musical likes. The album has love songs, drinking songs, songs to make a woman want a guy, and those classic Chesney songs like “Better As A Memory” where he sings to some lady in his life that he’s better as a memory then as her man. Who I Am: Poets and Pirates even has a duet with George Strait titled “Shiftwork” and a Joe Walsh remake to add to the variety of songs sure to become Chesney classics.

If you’re a Kenny Chesney fan, his latest CD is a must for the collection.  Make sure to check out Kenny Chesney's Website to see if he'll be performing near you, we've seen him numerous times and he puts on one of the best shows around.

If you like this album, You'll love any of these!!
