The Hitcher
You'll Never Pick Up a Hitchhiker Again
Rogue Pictures
I remember watching the
first The Hitcher movie in 1986, back when I was a junior in high
school. I think I had nightmares for a few weeks after seeing it,
but something about the thriller made me keep watching it over and over.
Usually I don’t like when
they remake a childhood favorite of mine; I want to remember it the way
I did back then, not the way they usually change the film for modern
times.
I was pleasantly surprised after watching this remake. What surprised me
the most, was how much Sean Bean, who plays the tormented, sadistic
hitchhiker named John Ryder, looked like the first star from the
original thriller. Except for a few simple facts, they reproduced the
original storyline almost to the ‘T’.
For those who have never seen the first movie. The story follows a young
couple (Sophia Bush and Zachary Knighton) who are driving their way
across the South West country for spring break, when Bean, hitches a
ride with them. By setting them up in numerous murder scenes, he’s able
to torment their lives to the point of insanity.
With major blood and guts, plenty of action and heart stopping thrill
scenes, The Hitcher is for anyone who enjoys getting the crap scared out
of them. After watching it, you’ll never stop to pick up a hitchhiker
again. I know I’ve never even thought about it in my life time, all
because of the first movie, after refreshing my memory with this remake,
I know I’m safe for the next 30 years of travel with no way ward
passengers in my back seat.
