Summer Storms in Florida
One thing that Florida is known for is their Lightning. The state has more lightning than all the other states combined with a whopping 25.3 strikes per square mile and 1.45 million lightning strikes each year, on average. Central Florida is the most lightning prone area in the United States with about 90 thunderstorm days a year. Because of this, Florida has more lightning deaths than any other state. In fact, lightning kills more people in Florida than all other weather hazards combined.
This makes for some amazing light shows if you’re dumb enough to sit out on the dock and watch them pass by like we do. Cindy and I have spent countless nights sitting out under the heavens as they unleash their furry. Whether if be shooting stars, the Milky Way visible from Horizon to Horizon, or massive storm fronts passing along the coastline, we both love to sit out for hours and watch them.
Here are some tasty images we’ve been able to capture over the last few days. Luckily we have a Think Tank Hydrophobia Rain Cover to put on our camera to protect it from the elements so it can sit atop the tripod in this weather and not get harmed.
